H1N1 Influenza (SwineFlu) Situation

Loma Linda University Center for Public Health Preparedness is actively involved with the current evolving H1N1 Influenza (SwineFlu) outbreak. LLU CPHP is under contract with the San Bernardino County Preparedness and Response Program, where we serve as technical advisors on pandemic influenza preparedness. Under the Center's CDC funded activities, we have developed training materials for faith-based organizations, schools, community-based organizations, Tribal Nations, local and state health agencies, and for community health fairs.

H1N1 Influenza (SwineFlu) has rapidly spread across the U.S. around the globe and has quickly presented itself as a pandemic.

CDC has discontinued the reporting of individual confirmed and probable cases of novel H1N1 infection as of July 24, 2009. CDC will report the total number of hospitalizations and deaths weekly, and continue to use its traditional surveillance systems to track the progress of the novel H1N1 flu outbreak.

As of 11:00 AM ET on September 3, 2009, CDC reported 9,079 Hospitalized cases of swine flu in 53 states & territories and 593 death: This infromation is updated daily at 9:00 AM PST on www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu

LLU CPHP, in line with the CDC and WHO, urges careful attention to personal hygiene practices, proper cough and sneeze etiquette, and practice of social distancing. It is also requested that all individuals exhibiting symptoms of influenza like illness (ILI) remain at home and if symptoms worsen, to then contact their healthcare providers.
